His programme provides an excellent psychiatric training and education programme which includes a wide range of sub specialties including general adult, old age, child and adolescent, learning disability, liaison psychiatry, psychotherapy, forensic psychiatry and substance misuse.

The medical/psychiatric education program is very well supported by Mike Silver, Deputy Medical Education Manager, and the Medical Education team.

A wide range of training experience is avalable for core trainees to include PICU, eating disorders, and early intervention in psychosis, neurobehavioral disorders, perinatal psychiatry and rehabilitation, among others.

Trainees also have the opportunity to work with a team of highly experienced education/clinical supervisors who provide a high standard of psychiatric training for a range of foundation, GP, BBT, core, and higher specialty trainees.

All of the consultants and higher trainees are involved in teaching on the weekly medical education programme. In addition, external speakers with specific special interests and research experience are invited to teach on specific topics.

There is also considerable support for trainees who wish to be involved in scientific research. A robust research and development department at Sussex Partnership is guiding and supporting many research projects.

The team have strong links with Brighton and Sussex Universities and many of our consultants, trainee doctors and other clinicians are involved in teaching and research activities.

The university links enable us to offer the MRCPsych course in this area for the benefit of the HE KSS core trainees.

We also have strong links with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School so undergraduate medical students are placed in various teams for clinical experience in psychiatry. This provides a unique opportunity for core and higher specialty trainees to be involved in teaching medical students in clinical settings and also to be involved in teaching GP and Foundation year doctors.
