I aim to protect and further the rights of those with mental health issues and learning disabilities to promote greater public understanding of their problems and dispel the discrimination and stigma they suffer. I have particular concern for those being treated under the Mental Health Acts, older people, working class adults, and forensic services, to ensure the most appropriate treatment is available in Sussex and close to their home. I look for a closer working between Sussex Partnership and Social Services and to enable equal opportunity for treatment across the three areas of Sussex.
I wish to be involved in the development of the Trust's strategy and vision to aim for excellence and represent the interest and views of the public members to the Board. As a governor, I will monitor and challenge the procedure of the Board and the progress of the Trust to achieve its objectives.
As a qualified solicitor, I can analyse documentation and problems. For eight years a non-executive director of East Sussex Hospitals Trust (and a member of audit committee), I have a thorough knowledge of NHS finance, regulation and employment and also as a trustee of two other health organisations a good experience of clinical governance.
