Information for health professionals

Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service

Making a referral

What are the referral criteria?

The service is for:

  • People with a first episode/first presentation of psychosis
  • People aged between 14 and 65
  • People who have not yet received treatment for psychosis OR
  • People who have had less than six months treatment for psychosis
  • Residents of Sussex
  • People transferring from another Early Intervention service who have completed less than 30 months of treatment.

How to make a referral

To make a referral please contact your local team via phone or email. Telephone calls are preferred as this allows us to get a better understanding of the person and the difficulties they are experiencing before we contact them directly for more information and to progress the referral.

What to expect after a referral is made

Our aim is to see people who are referred to the service within two weeks, but we try to see them sooner if possible.

The assessment process lasts up to six weeks and in that time the individual may see a number of different people in the team to make sure that we are completing the assessment thoroughly. After the assessment is complete we will determine whether we are the right service for the individual and if we are not, we will ensure that they are signposted to the most relevant and appropriate service for them.

We are able to offer support for up to three years.

Locations, opening hours and contact details

All services are open Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.
