The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting everyone; but how could we offer everyone within our organisation the opportunity to share their experiences and inform decisions about our future working practices within the ‘new normal’ and beyond?

We could invite our staff and patients to share their experiences in a number of ways and promise to make good use of the data – but then struggle to work with the data and resort to doing what we were going to do anyway. Let’s be honest, we’ve all done this before. Or we could commit ourselves to a comprehensive and transparent process of engaging, listening, learning and sharing – and allow the findings from within this process to inform decisions and actions in all corners of our organisation. Would this be possible given the imperative to work at pace during the pandemic? We chose this ambitious option – and this is our story of what we did and what we learned along the way within our part of the NHS.
