Mandy Burton has been working in the NHS for 22 years and currently works as Clinical Lead and Nurse Consultant for Hampshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Hampshire CAMHS is a service which provides a range of effective evidence-based assessment and treatment for children and young people aged 0-18 years.

Mandy has always worked in the NHS with children, young people and adults, except for a short time when she volunteered to work as a nurse in Brazil.

We asked Mandy why she enjoys working in the NHS: “I really enjoy working with children and young people because they are full of energy and open to learn new ways to improve their mental health and wellbeing. They have so much potential to change and they are a joy to work with. I am also given so many opportunities to develop my knowledge as a nurse, to work in different roles, and to learn new ways of working.

“There is a great team spirit in Hampshire CAMHS and the staff are all so passionate about offering compassionate care and treatment. We support and empower children and young people to develop good mental health, wellbeing and resilience to help reduce the likelihood of future mental illness. We also support them to build skills and confidence – this is an amazing thing to be able to do.”

We asked Mandy why we are so lucky to have the NHS: “The NHS provides high quality care and treatment to us all and is free at the point of delivery to meet our health needs.

“My family and friends have experienced excellent treatment across a range of health conditions. I am proud to work in the NHS.”
