Shining Star - Non-Staff
Dan received this award for sharing his lived experience, which has helped to make our research more relevant and improve treatment for patients.
Dan is a Peer Researcher who works closely with our Research Team.
Dan has worked on lived experience involvement panels (LEAPS) on several research studies, including SLOMO, a study which supports people suffering from paranoia by helping them to slow down for a moment as part of a coping strategy. He’s also been an active member of LEAF, our lived experience advisory panel, for many years.
He’s been an active participant in a number of other initiatives and event, always being there to help.
He supported fundraising to buy a bench and plants to commemorate a colleague, Ruth, who passed away. He not only helped with fundraising but physically by digging a huge hole to plant the palm.
Dan actively supports Heads On, Sussex Partnership’s charity. In 2018 he took part in Walk for Wards, the charity’s annual sponsored walk or run, and this year did it as part of a team, documenting the day with numerous photographs.
He volunteered to help at a conference to mark World Mental Health Day 2019. Afterwards, whilst the team were having a cuppa to debrief, one of the delegates came up to us and was a bit upset. Dan instinctively offered support, which was heart-warming to watch.
Dan’s nominator said: ‘I'm nominating him because I can always rely on him to be kind and supportive and there are too many occasions to mention all of them. I hope you get a picture of what a great, positive person he is - he always puts people first!’
