Mill View Hospital
Everyone Counts Team Award - Clinical
This award recognises the significant efforts made by teams across the hospital to improve the experience of both service users and staff.
Staff at Mill View have come together over the last nine months to make significant changes that improve the care and support they provide, and to improve the working environment for staff.
After creating a mission statement and vision, staff have used this to focus on what they want to achieve.
It has resulted in increased staffing levels across all wards, improved supervision and training compliance, a new local staff induction and bite-size weekly training.
All wards now have weekly team meetings, and reflective practice sessions, where staff can discuss things that have happened and how handling of them could be improved, have been well received.
The hospital has now established a Working Together Group, which is chaired by an Expert By Experience, and give patients the opportunity to share their ideas and give feedback on their experience at the hospital.
Staff have received bespoke training on complex mental health conditions to help them better support patients.
The nomination explained: ‘What I know and feel is that the team at Mill View is one that is kind, compassionate, transparent, robust and it certainly has a good sense of humour.
‘I recently prepared a presentation to reflect some of the hospital improvements and service developments, I was slightly taken aback to acknowledge the gravity of our significant change.
‘By working together, everyone achieves more.’
