Supporting Transgender and Non-Binary Service Users Policy
Please note that our trans policies are currently under review, pending the Equality and Human Rights Commission's updated statutory guidance expected in summer 2025. The new statutory guidance will outline how the Supreme Court ruling of 16 April - on how the terms "woman" and "sex" are defined in the Equality Act - will apply to NHS workplaces and services. Our trans policies will both align to this new statutory guidance and ensure that the rights of all of our staff and service users are upheld.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is committed to the provision of mental
health care to all people who use their services.
Transgender and non-binary people may experience discrimination, harassment and
transphobia. These are experiences which may impact a person's mental health and
associated need for mental health care.
This policy is a clear commitment to providing compassionate, respectful, personcentred care that is sensitive to the needs of each individual. It provides both guidance and good practice drawn from health and trans organisations.
