Meet the team...Suzy Dobson

Tell us a bit about your role
I am the Programme Director for the Provider Collaborative, so I have an overview of all the commissioning and partnership activity that goes on between the team and our partners. I help lead the Provider Collaborative with our Clinical Directors Catherine and Mike.
Last year I also took on responsibility for Transitions and Pathways Team for Sussex Partnership. They do focussed work with patients to avoid clinically unwarranted admissions to external level 2 rehab provision, and help finding pathway solutions for adults who have (or are at risk of having) a long length of stay in an acute mental health setting.
How long have you been in your role/worked for the Provider Collaborative?
Since August 2019
What's the favourite thing about your job?
I have a professional interest in complex pathways and people whose life histories have been marked by disruption, poor life chances and societal structured inequalities. I am a social worker by background, and this role rewards my need to feel that I am making a difference. Some people who have a very long stay in secure services are there because there is no system aspiration to think differently for them. I like being part of a system that is building aspiration for some of the most vulnerable people in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I live in a house that was built somewhere between 1765-85 and is within an old naval hospital in Hampshire. I moved there in April 2021, and it has been a labour of love doing it up (and a bit of a money pit)!
I am an active part of a sailing group, more the social side these days. I also go to the gym and can now bench press 35kg.
Is there anything people would be surprised to know about you?
I am training to be a tea sommelier!
