Our research

Research helps us provide better care

Our research helps us to explore and improve new and innovative treatments and therapies for people who use our services.

  • In line with the NHS constitution, all patients who use our services should be given the opportunity to receive information about research studies that may be relevant to them, unless they opt-out of receiving such information.
  • We put patients at the centre of what we do by developing our research in collaboration with people who have lived experience of mental health problems and/or learning disabilities.
  • Watch our short film about research at Sussex Partnership from Mark Hayward, Director of Research.
  • See our research highlights poster, which includes the number of studies and participants, plus key research findings, over the past year.

We collaborate with a wide range of research partners, such as other NHS trusts and universities, including the Centre for Dementia Studies, based at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, to improve the quality of life for people with dementia.

We are part of the Health Research Partnership, a collaboration between Brighton and Sussex Medical School and other NHS organisations, to support research in the region.

Through these collaborations, we share expertise and develop and deliver research studies to address issues that affect people who use our services. We host the Applied Research Collaboration Kent, Surrey & Sussex (ARC KSS). ARC KSS works with local providers of NHS services, care services, NHS commissioners, local authorities, universities, private companies and charities to conduct applied health and care research that addresses the specific health or care issues in our region.

Key themes include: children and young people's mental health, social care, dementia, primary and community health services, co-production, health and social care economics, digital innovation and public health.
