Looking for people from the LGBTQ+ communities to take part in mental health research

10 January 2024

A short animation has been produced by the Research and Development team at Sussex Partnership to try and increase awareness of research opportunities in Sussex amongst the LGTBQ+ community.

Did you know that 5% of people in Sussex, and more than one in ten in Brighton, are LGBTQ+, but this isn't represented in our research participants.

Our Research and Development team have produced a short animation to try and increase awareness of research opportunities in Sussex amongst the LGBTQ+ community.

The team have been working with Dr Anna-Marie Bibby-Jones, EDI Research Lead, a lived experience advisor, and Brighton-based creative agency Be the Fox, to come up with an animation and some artwork. These will be used to try and increase LGBTQ+ representation in research and to encourage people to sign up to our Research Network so they can find out more about mental health and learning disability research opportunities in Sussex.

Dr Bibby-Jones said:

"Diversifying our mental health research is critical if we want to seriously address the inequalities that exist for marginalised groups. I've been really impressed with how the research team have embraced different approaches to improve inclusion and connect with LGBTQ+ communities. We hope this resource will help raise awareness of what we do and that research is for everybody."

Thank you to Be The Fox, who generously gave us their time and creative expertise to create this artwork in support of the NHS.
