Tobacco Dependency Service

We've launched a new service to provide advice, support and treatment to help patients stop smoking, both in hospital and in the community.

The Tobacco Dependency Service aims to increase the number of patients engaging in treatment for smoking - and successfully quitting. As well as working across all inpatient units, we are one of seven National Early Implementer sites for community patients. As an Early Implementer, we will be able to support patients not only when they are admitted to hospital but also after they are discharged, with a 16-week programme.

The Tobacco Dependency Service is led by a new team of dedicated tobacco dependency advisors, who visit every ward to introduce the service and work collaboratively with the patient's mental health lead. The service will provide tailored individual and group treatment options, including strategies to aid in coping with withdrawal and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
