Psychology and wellbeing support

About us

The Psychology and Wellbeing team offers talking therapy to those accessing Sussex Gender Service. We can help support you with psychological, emotional or relational distress relating to your gender, such as dealing with transphobia, or managing the changes of transition. We offer 1:1 therapy and group therapy. The team is made up of clinical and counselling psychologists who are all experienced in working with trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people. You can read more about what to expect in your appointments in the leaflets below.

In your second appointment at SGS you can ask your clinician for a referral to Psychology and Wellbeing.

When you are referred, you will be invited to an initial appointment with a psychologist to discuss your wellbeing and goals, and the types of support we have available. Following this, you will be offered a place in one of our therapy groups, or added to our 1:1 therapy waiting list.

We run three groups intermittently throughout the year. Groups can be a great way to learn coping tools and connect with community. We run compassion focused therapy (CFT), affirm cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and group eye movement desensitisation therapy (GTEP). See the groups drop down for more details and upcoming dates.

We also offer 1:1 therapy (8-10 sessions) with a psychologist where you can discuss psychological, emotional or relational distress relating to your gender.
