Message from Chief Executive, Dr Jane Padmore, following recent Supreme Court Ruling
Pride Month is a way for us to celebrate diversity within our workforce and the local communities we serve. I want to use this opportunity to explicitly reinforce our commitment to valuing, respecting and supporting the rights of TNBI colleagues and service users.
I recognise the concern that the UK Supreme Court ruling has caused among the TNBI community. I have also had feedback about the ruling providing welcome clarification on the issue of women's safety. Both perspectives are valid and important.
It is important to state that trans people continue to be protected under the gender reassignment provisions of the Equality Act 2010 and Gender Recognition Act 2004, while non-binary and intersex individuals benefit from additional important safeguards provided by legislation such the Human Rights Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
As a Trust, we remain fully committed to upholding the rights and dignity of all our TNBI colleagues and service users. Our Sussex Gender Service delivers essential and care to service users experiencing gender incongruence. We will continue to see and treat TNBI people with the dignity and respect they deserve.
The TNBI community continues to be protected from discrimination, harassment, and victimisation under the Equality Act 2010. We will continue to uphold these protections, in order to ensure a safe, inclusive environment for everyone.
