Successful Walk for Wards event celebrates NHS in Sussex

14 June 2022

On Saturday 11 June, Glynde Estates, near Lewes, saw walkers from across Sussex come together to celebrate the NHS.

Raising almost £10,000 for the four participating NHS charities, it was a truly humbling and joyful sponsored walk to raise funds to support Heads On (Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s charity), East Sussex NHS charity, Sussex Community NHS charity and SASH charity (Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust’s charity).

Walkers were rallied first by Amanda Jones, Non-Executive Director of Sussex Partnership and Charitable Funds Committee Chair who thanked all attendees for supporting the NHS Trust that meant the most to them before Chair of Lewes District Council, Cllr Adrian Ross gave a passionate speech about the importance of our NHS and participants support before a united count down setting the walkers off.

The event saw staff, patients who had used NHS Trust's services, community groups and corporate supporters walk, jog or run either 5km or 10km around the beautiful setting of the private Glynde Estates.

Rachael Duke, Head of Charity at Heads On said: "After a difficult 2 years, it was fantastic to see supporters uniting to support the NHS charity that means the most to them, by carrying out this sponsored challenge."

"NHS staff have endured extremely challenging circumstances over the pandemic which is still being felt now; this event really shows our NHS how much we appreciate it. NHS charities enable Trust's to go above and beyond what would normally be possible funding projects to make hospitals a more welcoming environment, specialist research, providing equipment and funding projects to compliment patient's recovery."
